I came across this organisation in the lead up to the Aintree Grand National festival. Offering a race day package including a tour of the Grand National course with industry leaders, a champagne brunch and a private facility for the day. The biggest draw for me was the group of people that this event brought together. I instantly dialed my mom’s number and before I knew it we had our two tickets and her flight to Liverpool booked.
An early start to the day brought us through a panel discussion of successful sporting women followed by the stories behind the Grand National and the jaw-dropping course walk. A quick transformation from casual to glamorous clothes and we were ready for brunch and racing.
The private hospitality provided the perfect setting to get to know the other ladies attending and to learn all that Women in Racing offer. The mentoring programe was particularly interesting for me. WIR pair up members established in their profession with new members starting out in the industry.
I chose to be paired with Eileen Harte from Keith Harte Bloodstock. Eileen is the Commercial Director of this business and I felt her vast experience working within the thoroughbred industry would help me to find direction in my own career pathway. I certainly have.
One Skype call later and I was invited to an open day at the beautiful Woburn stud. Little did I know, I would soon become a member of their staff!
Women in Racing provide great support and fabulous networking opportunities for ladies looking to embark on a career in the horse racing industry, or women wishing to join a very well organised race day in the company of a group with a similar interest in the UK.
